How MathStar maps to the curriculum

Kids pick their year group when they start MathStar. From that moment, every Soundcheck drill is drawn from the objectives set for that year — no problems above their level, but the ceiling always rises as they demonstrate mastery.

Frequently asked

When are times tables introduced?

The UK curriculum introduces 2×, 5× and 10× in Year 2; 3×, 4× and 8× in Year 3; and expects all tables up to 12×12 by the end of Year 4.

What is EYFS?

The Early Years Foundation Stage — the maths framework for Reception. It focuses on numbers to 10, counting, shape and simple pattern-spotting.

What's the difference between KS1 and KS2?

KS1 covers Years 1 and 2 (ages 5–7). KS2 covers Years 3 to 6 (ages 7–11) and is split into Lower KS2 (Y3–Y4) and Upper KS2 (Y5–Y6).

Is MathStar mapped to the UK curriculum?

Yes. Every Soundcheck drill is tied to a UK National Curriculum objective for the child's chosen year group.
